Robert D. "Bob"  Smith
Robert D. “Bob” Smith, 79, of Beattyville, KY passed away Saturday evening at his home on Big Andy Ridge after a long illness. He was in his favorite recliner where he wrote hundreds of stories over the years.
Bob Smith was born in Neon, KY on July 4th, 1943 the son of Robert D. Smith and Osie Tolliver. He was an Army Veteran, curator and president of the Three Forks Historical Center, chairman of the Lee County War Memorial committee, Kentucky Admiral, past president of the Natural Bridge Park Association, past president of the Pine Ridge Industrial Board just to name a few of his accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Keen Smith; children, Crista Lynn and Daryle Thomas of Lyman, SC, Marna and Charlie Saunders of Owingsville, KY, Joshua Smith of Beattyville, KY; grandchildren, Austin Thomas, Ethan Smith (Mariah Holiday), Zane Thomas, Lydia Saunders, Miles Saunders, Emma Smith and Allison Smith; great grandson, Luke Ian Smith; sister Ila Alane Nickell of West Liberty, KY; very, very special family friend, Jessica Treadway; special nephew Danny Cox and many, many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Smith; mother Osie Tolliver Cox, stepfather, Shirley P. Cox; sister Shirley Jo Cook and brother Bobby Ray Quillen.
Visitation for Bob Smith will be held Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. in the Newnam Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 4th, 2022 with William Owens and Marvin Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Rock of Ages Cemetery with Newnam Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Austin Thomas, Zane Thomas, Ethan Smith, Miles Saunders, Joe Lucas and Mike Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Cox, Alvin Wright, Larry Meadows, Alan Barnett, Jamie Stickler, and Tony Hobbs.
