He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Whitaker. Roy is also preceded in death by his brother John Whitaker of Dwarf, Kentucky, along with two sisters, Carma Mae Kirby and Revel Campbell, of Ohio. He is survived by a brother Gary Whitaker.
He is survived by his son Stephen Roy Whitaker, daughter in law, Monica of Guntersville, Alabama and by a daughter Shelia Whitaker Thurman and son in law Willie, of Bellbrook, Ohio. Roy graduated from the Perry County Schools. After graduation he served his country during the Korean War in the army. After his military career he earned a post secondary degree in education and Mathematics from Morehead State University. Roy and his wife were a member of the Faith Community Methodist Church.

Roy spent a lifetime teaching Mathematics, along with sponsoring the senior class at Beatyville, Ky and the Junior class at Xenia High School. He was an avid fisherman, not needing the bells and whistles of today’s fisherman. He is known far and wide for his gardening skills and his many gardens. It is required to be one of his children that you maintain a garden in your yard. And if you don’t have time to put a garden in a timely manner, he would put one in your yard for you!
Roy was a true fisher of men in his life and heart, always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, following the Lord’s mandate and example to be kind to all who are in need. Mark 1:17
