Obituary for Hester Palmer White

Hester Palmer White, 96, of Ludlow, widow of Carl B. White, Jr., died peacefully at her home, Sunday, October 28. Mrs. White was born September 5, 1922 in Tallega, Lee County, to Robert Lee and Georgia Hill Palmer.
During WWII, she completed her nurse’s training at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky, and became a Registered Nurse. She and Carl White were married in Lexington while she was in nursing training and he was a soldier fighting in WWII. A born and trained nurse, Mrs. White worked at Good Samaritan Hospital; William H. Booth Memorial Hospital, Covington; and as school nurse for Newport Independent Schools.
She is survived by three children: Glen A. White (Kathleen C. Harnett), Barbara Sue (Su’) Sheridan, and Douglas K. White (Paula); four grandchildren, Christopher D. White, Kara Sheridan Ayers (Adam), Nicholas P. Sheridan (Jenna), and Alison White Wathen (Brenton); seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Tommy (Anne) White; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late husband of 62 years, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Vina Palmer Brown, Robert Lee Palmer, Carl Wilson Palmer, Samuel Clinton Palmer, Howard Hill Palmer, and Charles Palmer; and one nephew, Kenneth Palmer.
Pallbearers are: Glen White, Douglas White, Christopher White, Nicholas Sheridan, Justin Palmer, and Brenton Wathen. Honorary Pallbearers: Su’ Sheridan, Kara Ayers, and Allie Wathen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center — Lexington, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40508, or St. Elizabeth Hospice, Covington, KY.
