Condolence: While I have many fond memories of Aunt Madge from family summer visits to Beattyville when I was a child, my most compelling memories of her are from the recent past. Madge endured the pain and debilitation of Parkinson's Disease with fierce determination and grace. She lived her life with a deep sense of joy(it was amazing how many things were "so much fun" to her) and she took deep pleasure in her wonderful family and her many friendships. She was an educator to the end of her life, and relentlessly advocated for a new public library building for the people of Beattyville until, against all odds, that building became a reality. Like her sister Gladys (who turns 100 in a few weeks), Madge bled Kentucky Wildcat Blue and was a big basketball fan. In my last visit with her, Madge, Gladys, my wife Sharon and I watched the 2019 NCAA basketball semi-final game (UVA vs. Auburn) on the television in Madge's nursing home room. What great fun that was. What a great person she was. What a great spirit she remains.

Condolence: I have many happy memories as a child visiting Beattyville. Every summer coming to visit the Oliver family farm way up on the mountaintop. My Aunt Madge was a loving and warm Christian lady. I always loved her and admired her. I will continue to love and cherish her memory. Sending prayers and love to all my family in Kentucky.

Condolence: Madge was such a sweetheart. I attended EKU with her when she had gone back to school to get her teaching degree. At the time I lived with my parents in Irvine and if the weather was bad she would often follow me home and my mom would have some good lunch prepared and we would spend the afternoon together till the roads cleared some. I was figuring we were 28 years apart in age. I don't remember if we ever saw each other after that, but I think we did. We had a common friend and I have stayed in touch with her that way. I am so sorry for your loss, she was a wonderful lady.
