Obituary for Raymond Douglas Congleton

Raymond Douglas Congleton, (92) of Dacula, GA passed away on October 20, 2019. He was born on November 8, 1926 in Beattyville, KY to Clayton Congleton and Versie Turner Congleton. Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Wilma Jane Price Congleton; daughter, Belinda Congleton Rose (William Edward Rose) of Flowery Branch, GA; son, Stephen Douglas Congleton (Linda Schneider Congleton) of Loveland, OH; granddaughters, Jennifer Elizabeth Rose of Atlanta, GA and Sarah Anne Congleton of Asheville, NC; grandsons, James Douglas Rose (Candice Harbottle Rose) of Flowery Branch, GA and Daniel Douglas Congleton of Loveland, OH; and great grandchildren, Ansleigh Noelle Rose and Everett James Rose of Flowery Branch, GA. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clark Congleton, and his sister Catherine Elizabeth Brandenburg. During his teens, Raymond began his working career as a projectionist at the Beattyville Movie Theater until he was called to serve in the US Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he pursued a career in farming until he later began a 38 year long career at Congleton Bros., Inc., first as a truck driver and later as the Underground and Surface Mine Foreman. He was also a Master and Journeyman Plumber. Raymond was a lifelong member of Beattyville Christian Church where he served as both Deacon and Elder. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Newnam Funeral Home with Ken Ward officiating. Visitation will be at the Newnam Funeral Home from 9 AM to 11 AM before the service. Interment will be in the Congleton Cemetery, Beattyville, KY. At Raymond’s request, honorary pallbearers are: Sam Cockerham, Terry Congleton, Mitch Cornelius, Mike Newnam, Russell Stamper and Jamie Stickler.
