Herman Griffin, Sr., husband of Geraldine Marshall Griffin and the son of the late Earnest Griffin, Sr. and Thelma Estes Griffin was born in Lee County, Kentucky on May 13, 1937 and departed this life in Richmond, Kentucky on October 18, 2019 at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 5 days. He worked for 26 years as a Chemist for a Paint Factory and was a former pumper for several oil companies. Herman was a member of the local VFW, a member of the Masons-Proctor Lodge 213, a former Kiwanis member, on the local museum board, as well as a part of the Habitat for Humanity. He was known all over town for his warm and welcoming smile and loved his time spent fishing on the river.
In addition to his wife, Geraldine, Herman is survived by four children, Herman Griffin, Jr. and wife Teresa Ann, Lisa Smyth and husband Rick, and Summer Shuler and husband Justin, all of Beattyville, Kentucky, and Jason Watkins and wife Beulah of Booneville, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Nicole Griffin, Emily Smyth, Logan Smyth, and Preston Shuler; brother and sister, Omer Griffin and Shirley Mays; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Arthur, J.C., Earnest Jr., Clayburn, and Donald Lee Griffin.
