Obituary for Viola Faye Thorpe (Childers)

Viola Faye  Thorpe (Childers)
Viola Faye Thorpe, 74 passed away peacefully at her home Friday, March 30, 2018 following a long illness. She was born September 19, 1943 in Beattyville, KY to the late Sam and Sara Childers.

Faye grew up in Lee County and graduated from Lee County High School in 1960. She was a retired teacher at the Comprehensive Care Center in St. Helens for mentally handicapped adults.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Sara, stepfather Matt Spencer, and brother Lloyd “Palo” Childers.

Survivors include her husband Jimmy Thorpe, children Rick (Cindy) Angel of Harrodsburg, KY, Tim (Tammy) Angel of Beattyville, KY and brothers Corsie Childers and Tony Spencer both of Beattyville.

She also had eight grandchildren- Chad (Brenna) Angel of Lexington, KY, Lindsay (Alex) Stebing of Fort Mitchell, KY, Mason Angel, Drew Angel, Bailey Angel, Maddie Angel , Emily Angel and Preston Angel.

She was also blessed with four great grandchildren- Ellie Stebing, Blythe Stebing, Wilson Angel and Charlotte Angel. She is also survived by stepdaughters Lisa Hall of Georgetown, KY, Tammy Thorpe of Corbin, KY, Jenny Pritchard (Buddy) of New York, NY and grandson Brandon Thorpe and great grandson Casper Thorpe.


She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was most happy at home with her family - especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who cherish the memories of their time with Granny Faye.

Visitation will be Tuesday April 3 at Newman Funeral Home 108 Center Street, Beattyville, KY at 1-2 pm with funeral service at 2 pm. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Beattyville, Ky.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts and contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association alz.org.
