Obituary for Robert Paul Gabbard

Robert Paul (Bobby) Gabbard, 84, widower of Rose Marie Fry Gabbard, passed Saturday, July 27, 2013, at his residence in Beattyville, KY. He was born in Earnestville, KY August 13, 1928 to the late Ree Gabbard and Lucy Tackett Gabbard. Mr. Gabbard was a member of Beattyville Christian Church from 1959 till his time of death. He was an extraordinary man who faithfully served God, his country, his family, and his fellow man. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Air Force in the South Pacific with the 20th Air Force Aviation Engineers. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, as well as a member of Proctor Lodge #213 F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Oleika Shrine Temple, VFW Post 11296, Hillbilly Clan #31, and the Lee County Shrine Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, and his brother Lorraine D. Gabbard. He was a loving, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son John Paul (Lyn) Gabbard, Versailles, KY, grandson Ryan Paul Gabbard, Lexington, KY, granddaughter Brittany Lyn (Ryan) Miller, Versailles, KY, and great- grandchildren Brandon Paul and Shealey Kay Gabbard, Lawrenceburg, KY and Gracelyn Ryan Miller, Versailles, KY, one brother Jackie (Lou) Gabbard, Boiling Springs, SC, sisters Virginia Jo (David) Wallace, Oak Ridge, TN, Betty Furgison, Jacksonville, FL, Linda (Conrad) Huff, Lexington, KY, special friends Donna Sue Herrick, Lawrenceburg, KY, Carolyn Hutchinson, Richmond, KY, Juanita Evans, Beattyville, KY, William H. Abner, Beattyville, KY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and colleagues. Visitation will be held Monday, July 29 from 6 to 9pm at the Newnam Funeral Home in Beattyville, KY. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday July 30 at the Beattyville Christian Church, burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Beattyville, KY. Mr. Gabbard retired from People's Exchange Bank in 1996 after serving 28 years. He also served 42 years as the Beattyville City Clerk and Treasurer. After retiring, his primary interests were his family, his church, and the Shrine. Pallbearers will be board members of the Beattyville Christian Church, honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lee County Shrine Club.
